Thy Will Be Done Lord, Thy Will Be Done
Did you reach the end of your rope in rescuing your teen? Have you prayed or begged God to fix your child to what you thought was best for them? Was there a time in which your teen’s life was coming together only to turn around and get redirected in the opposite direction?
I have gone through all of those situations and guess what I learned?
There was nothing that I could do. That’s right. I couldn’t change the circumstances. I couldn’t figure out the plans. I had exhausted myself from worry and fear and tried everything to no avail.
I had poured out my heart and life to God for every situation and crisis with no change as a result?
It wasn’t until I learned this secret that I understood why. God loved to hear my prayers. God knew every detail of what I was going through as well as my teen. He hadn’t forgotten me. He hadn’t ignored my prayers.
However, I noticed one important thing when I prayed. I was asking God to do many things in my teen’s life, but not once did I pray and ask God to do HIS will in my teen’s life.
As a parent, our main focus is healing for our teen. When we take on this responsibility however, we can often block God’s opportunities to do what He knows is best and in His plans for our teen.
Many times over the course of years in my teen’s life, I was desperate for help and answers. I would come to a place of desperation after depleting my emotional, physical, mental and spiritual fuel tank. This was a wake-up call. I waited until I could give no more and then asked for God’s intervention in prayer. When I finally relented and allowed God to rescue my teen, I was not happy with the results.
You see, those events took me on journeys that no parent wants to go on. Looking back, I now understand that I HAD to go down those roads in order for me to comprehend the importance of submitting to God’s plan instead of my own. I regret now that I did not take the higher approach by calling on God first for His will to be done.
Today, I don’t take control over a new crisis. I quickly run to God and ask Him to jump in immediately. That is where I can truly say, “Whatever You need to do Lord, let Thy will be done.” It’s scary of letting go of your control, but I promise, you will get in return a peace that His plan has already been set in motion and He already knows the outcome. All you have to do is stand firm in your faith while all the details are being worked out.
I know that some of you have some very unsettling situations and problems that are very huge like boulders. I would give you this one piece of encouragement. GOD is BIGGER than your crisis. Don’t allow the enemy to convince you otherwise. There is nothing too difficult for Him. He sees all. He hears all. He knows all. No matter how bad it looks, God’s plans and purpose will be glorified in the end.
Stand strong my dear friend! God will hold your hand through this. At times, He will even carry you. Just keep your eyes on HIM.
‘Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
‘Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
‘Give us this day our daily bread.
‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’
Matthew 6:9-13
