Sisterhood of Hurting Moms

Sisterhood of Hurting Moms - Anchor Of Promise

Last year I took the plunge and joined an online chat group that consisted of moms just like me.  This wasn’t your normal chat group that most would think about.

In fact, we didn’t come to just chat, share stories, and make promises as if we were back in time like the sisterhood of the traveling pants.  No, we came to do something bigger and more profound that would affect the lives of our family, especially our children.

We came to pray, to work on our devotional book, to support and encourage one another.  Who were we?  We were hurting moms, hurting over our children’s choices, decisions, and destructive behaviors.

Many of these moms (not just in my group alone but across the country), were dealing with teens and young adults swept into the life of drugs, porn, gender issues, eating disorders, alcoholism, and more.  They are devastated, hurt, shocked, and filled with guilt and shame.  They had no one to talk to or share their struggles with.

Within the participation of the group, each mom shared her own personal story. You are amazed at the strength of these women who have endured so much and continue to do so under the stress and pain that their children are causing.

As each week passes, friendships start to develop.  A kinship begins to happen. You find yourself connecting with others who are faced with similar stories as your own. The walls that hurting moms built for emotional protection begin to come down. You finally begin to believe that you are NOT alone and a newfound trust develops among your peers.

During the ten week class and Breaking Free Guidebook, you find yourself sensing that the weakness you carried for so long has been replaced with a new strength. You learn to lift one another up in word and prayer and hope.

My ten week course has been finished for quite some time, but as committed friends in this journey, we now have a support among each other that was not there before. It brings with it a new hope to keep going no matter what crisis confronts us.

If you haven’t joined a support group, now is the time to do so.  Don’t let your discouragement rob you of the hope that Christ has for you and your family.

If you would like to join a support group for moms affected by their children’s destructive choices and need encouragement today, please contact Hurting Moms.

We have this hope (Jesus) as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. Hebrews 6:19
