Truth Is Your Weapon
You have found cocaine in your son’s drawers as you put his clothes away. You’re devastated. You caught your child in the act of self-harming after promises of quitting. You are saddened. Your teen has “come out” as bi-sexual and you wonder where you went wrong. You’re guilt-ridden after finding out your daughter was taken from school to the hospital due to a suicidal attempt.
What on earth do you do?
Be thankful for the truth. The darkness has come into the light. Now you know how to arm yourself against the enemy whose main goal is to destroy your teen through any means.
I would rather know the truth and face it head on than to live under the same roof with a loved one living a lie. As Christian parents, we are empowered with God-given spiritual armor, most specifically, the sword of the spirit (the Word of God), that enables us to stand against evil. Ephesian 6:13
As parents, we are always in battle over our children’s lives, We are there to defend them as well as fight for them against the enemy, Satan and his foes.
So, where do we start?
Give praise! Darkness has been exposed and we have God’s Word and prayer to combat evil. This is a time to be thankful for this knowledge given to us. Now we can move forward in His light, exposing what is necessary to bring about healing.
Ask for wisdom and discernment – we may not know what to do but God does. When we give Him control, He leads us in the right direction of how to deal with our teen, how to pray, and who to reach out to for support. He will enlighten us with wisdom as parents and keep truth in the forefront,
Get support – don’t try to fight the enemy alone. Get prayer covering from those within your Church and family circle. Seek clergy and counsel from in and out of the church such as mentors, support groups aligned with the issues of your child, and those within the medical and mental field.
Pray! – Your biggest weapon is prayer. Pray for truth to be revealed. Pray for a repentant and humble heart from your child. Pray for doors to open that will provide good counsel, support, and mentor for your child. Pray for your child’s heart to be willing and receptive to help.
So the next crisis that comes along and you find out the news of the biggest proportion, be at peace. God already knows what it is and has allowed it to be brought into the light for such a time as this.
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32 NIV
By [speaking] the word of truth, in the power of God, with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand [to attack] and for the left hand [to defend]; 2 Cor 6:7 Amplified
